The SDKA By-Laws & Policies follow the lead of IKF and SKUSA in regard to driver safety equipment. Currently, helmets with the Snell Foundation ratings of 2000 SA and M are due to expire 12/25/09.
It appears the helmet manufacturers may not have the Snell 2010 SA and M products available until sometime later in 2010.
IKF and SKUSA may extend the Snell 2000 SA and M helmet certifications thru 2010. We'll let you know when there is an update from IKF and SKUSA.
So don't go out and buy a new helmet thinking yours will expire 12/25/09, if you have one with the Snell 2000 SA or M label. If you are unsure, look inside the helmet to find the Snell label (you may need to carefully look under some of the padding).

Waiting for a reply from our insurance underwriter for their blessing to follow IKF and SKUSA to extend the SA and M 2000 helmets to 12/20/2010. Don't go sending Santa any letters for a new helmet... Should have a reply in the next few days... Stay tuned...

NKA has given their approval to allow SA and M 2000 rated helmets thru 2010, in keeping with IKF and SKUSA. Here's how the helmet requirements will read in the 2010 By-Laws & Policies:

Note: Although the youth helmet standard does not specify a precise age range, the helmets are intended for children and, particularly, for young, pre-pubertal children. Adult drivers should select a helmet meeting one of the other standards.
Note: The chin bar must be an integral part of the helmet structure. Motocross syle bolt on chin and face protectors do not meet the Snell standards, and will not be allowed.
