Hello all. I've gotten real interested in karting in the last few months. First lets go through my history. I have never done any racing before this. Back in Jan. a friend took me to Miramar Speed Circuit Indoor Kart racing and I had a good time there. Over the next couple months I started going more and moreand loved it. By the time may-june came around I was running within .5 second of the track record. Now since I had never done any type of racing I was surprised I got fast as quick as I did. Now in the past 2 months I have went to 2 more indoor karting places and did surprisingly well. I went to K1 and ran a 31.2 my second race there and the record is 30.5. I ran the 5th fastest time for the month of July. Then I went to the Kart Factory in brea and my second race there I claimed the second fastest time of the month. Now I'm running within .1 seconds of the track record at miramar and alot of people have been telling me to get into karting. I'm 19 years old 6"2 about 160 pounds. i'm in the marines o I will be racing on weekends. I just need to know what class I should try to get in and how much it costs to get started plus... spare parts for racing. I will be going up to moran in the next week or 2 to do there outdoor karting school..and hopefully get a kart soon after that. Any help is greatly appreciated. Sorry about the long read I just figured I would put all my info out there now...rather than later.

Michael, First off, you are making the right move by taking the school at Moran. The best suggestion I have is to ask them their opinion. I can almost guarantee you they will tell you to get into a TaG kart. We run two classes of TaG's at SDKA and they are by far the most popular. To get started, you can probably pick up a used chassis/engine package for around $2500-3000. As we get towards the end of the racing season, a lot of packages will become available. Keep an eye out on ours and other clubs websites. You can also check out manufacture's sites like Margay's ( www.margay.com ). They have some team karts for sale that they only use for one event or series then unload them at a discount. Since you are on the tall side for a racer, you want to make sure you get a kart with an extended porch (limo) so your knees won't be up in your chin. Hope this was of some help. Have fun at the school and ask lots of questions. G.
