For the the races at the end of the year will there be just the three or will there be more? I will be moving out to San Diego from Chicago in July along with my family. My daughter, Kristine, race TaG in the WKA Man Cup, Midwest Sprint Series and Stars currently. She also bought a Stock Moto recently. I also have a TaG kart, Sonik, for TaG Master/Heavy. Kristine will be coming out after the last Man Cup race at New Castle in the middle of August and would like to get some more seat time with her shifter before the Super Nats in November. Also what is the race day schedule like? This past year when Kristine ran club races at Badger Kart Club she would run TaG and HPV Senior Lite. If there is enough time beween classes she would like to run her TaG and Shifter, but we don't know how the SDKA race works. Badger has 10 to 12 race groups they usually kept the TaG and Shifter 4 to 6 classes appart so the drivers that ran both could get though tech. We will be out to look for a house in April and will try to stop out to the April 6th race. Thanks. Cheyne Daggett www.merlinusa.com

Cheyne, An early welcome to San Diego. Hopefully you'll be able to attend our April race when you are out here.
We would like to get an additional four events to finish out the season after the July race. We won't know the available stadium dates until June.
We run our race days with an average of 6-7 race groups and try to accommodate drivers who want to run in two classes. Ideally we should know in advance of race day so the scoring person can separate the groups in the AMB system.
TaG and Stock Moto are our two largest groups. You and your daughter should have some good competition.
Thanks, Jeff SDKA, V.P.

Jeff, Thanks for the info. Does the club normally run TaG Senior and TaG Heavy togather or does it depend on the turn out? We are looking foward to the move, but then any reason to get away from this is good.

Cheyne,

Another early welcome. I can only say you'll never have to shovel your driveway after you get to San Diego! Sheesh, that photo looks like a Currier and Ives winter scene. The SDKA club racing is great fun - we look forward to seeing you, Kristine and the family at the track.
If you don't already have a real estate agent, and want a good recommendation, ring me up or post me an email and I'll give you his contact info. Everyone he's helped to buy a house just raves about him.
It looks like you guys are on Merlin chassis?

Thanks for the offer. The picture was taken this past Tuesday. We had about 14 inches of snow that day. Now today it is in the mid 20's with a wind chill of 0. Tomorrow it is suppose to be 1F with a wind chill of -30F. Luckly in 3 weeks we are headed to Charolotte for the WKA Man Cup race. Yep we race Merlin's. We have used Haase, Birel and First Kart also, but we are pretty good friends with Jamie Sieracki, owner of Franklin Motorsports and importer of the Merlin, and other than a couple of races last year with First Kart USA for Stars of Karting we run under the Franklin Motorsports tent. Now I will be slow at first. I bought my kart last summer near end of the season to play with a test days. My last race was the World Challenge GT race at Cleveland in 2005 and then I didn't even get to race after blowing up several engines. Also if you want to see photos my wife takes at the track we have Photobucket site. Merlita loves taking photos at the races. She has only missed two races in the last 4 years when she went back to the Philippines to visit her family. s86.photobucket.com/albums/k82/CheyneD/Cheyne

Cheyne,
> Tomorrow it is suppose to be 1F with a wind chill of -30F.
Hmmmm... I just checked, and it's 70 degrees right now in the back room at my house, with the door to the back yard wide open. Outside, it's more like 80, bright sun, slight breeze, blue sky, a few puffy white clouds. Yeah, April can't get her soon enough for you guys, I'm betting.
> Luckly in 3 weeks we are headed to Charolotte for the WKA > Man Cup race.
Should be a tad warmer there. You towing a trailer down?

So which is more expensive, karting or World Challenge? :-)
> Merlita loves taking photos at the races.
I'll say! Man, she must have a couple of hundred memory cards. Looks like she's a Canon girl.

The family that karts together....
Regarding getting up to speed in the kart, the club doesn't have many practice days, but there are several tracks within a couple of hours that serve that purpose well. Perris Apex, where the club runs occasionally, CalSpeed and Adams are all within and hour and a half or so. Grange is about three hours, and Willow three and a half. Bakersfield, Santa Maria, and maybe a couple of others farther north. We have a couple of good indoor tracks close by too.

>Should be a tad warmer there. You towing a trailer down?
Na we will fly down. Franklin Motorsports takes care of Kristine's karts for the Nationals we run. We haul to the club races, but leave everything at the Franklin shop. Kristine has worked the last couple of summers in the shop building karts and working on engines.
>So which is more expensive, karting or World Challenge?
I love karting. Even running Stars races is cheap compared to my SCCA racing. I mainly ran GT1 in the SCCA with a few trys at SCCA Pro and I spend less in one year running 2 National, 1 Regional and all the club races that we can at Dousman then I would 3 club races, out of 7, with the GT1 Corvette.
>I'll say! Man, she must have a couple of hundred memory cards. Looks like she's a Canon girl.
She has two 2Gb CF cards for her Canon Digital Rebal XL. We got her the Canon when Kristine started to kart. It gives her something to do at the track. On a normaly Natioanl weekend she will take around 800 to 1000 pictures. Once we start race at the club she will be there and if anyone needs a picture just ask. She doesn't charge and usually just askes for credit if they are used on a website.
Well back to the deep freeze. Merlita is already pushing to move early, but we have to wait until graduation for Kristine, because of the weather.
