If things go well, we will be out for my son's debut Sunday. He says he just wants to watch, but we will be prepared if he changes his mind. So..... a couple quick questions.
1. He is going to need about 15# ballast to get to minimum weight. What do you use? I am guessing diving weight belt weights would work, but what is the usual method? Where to attach? Poking around, I gather it needs to be painted white and needs to be attached with "visible locking devices", as a place I used to work would say.
2. We do not have any of the spec fuel just yet, just some pump gas. I can make a reasonable effort to get some Sat morning, but how critical is this?
He has taken the school at Apex and been in the Kart twice, so he (and I) are still really green, and I don't expect him to be a threat for anything but last. How much should I be sweating these things for our first race? I just want him to get a feel for race day.
TIA

Welcome to the world of SDKA karting! I hope you find it as much fun as the rest of us.
Weights: Scuba weights are the easiest to get; painted white or white duct tape. Mount as low on the seat as possible; lowers center of gravity. Must be bolted thru the seat; double-nutted. Suggest drilling the bolt near the end for safety wire.
Fuel: Since you won't be competing for year end awards, fuel is probably not an issue. If you can get the spec race fuel/oil, you'll see a better performance. But don't let it keep you away.
Hope your son wants to race!
