Hi everyone,
I have always been into car racing and was thinking for a long time to start the karting hobby. I was looking around and was thinking purchasing a 2003 tony kart with a IAME Parilla 100cc engine. My question is is this a good kart to start with? Is the engine very efficient comparisson to other engines? Also could you please provide me with information on what are the main things to look for at a kart when buying a used one, so i don't fall in buying a bad kart.
Any help will be greatly appreciated,
Thanx
Igor

It's hard to say without seeing the kart first hand ... especially a chassis that old. Chassis can be bent or twisted but not visible without scaling or measuring. If it has a lot of use it can also be fatigued ... kart chassis are designed to flex and twist so over time they fatigue.
Are you sure its a Parilla 100cc motor, not a 125cc? Is it air cooled or water cooled (radiator)? Unless its a Parilla Leopard 1255cc motor then you would be wasting your money. The Leopard is the only Parilla TaG motor currently legal in most organizations.
If you are starting out you should really consider HPV-4 or one of the Yamaha KT100 classes (Formula YC Heavy or Senior Super Sportsman).
What is your budget? I know of two great chassis for sale that are in excellent condition and a steal at the price they are selling for. They are also available with either an HPV or Rotax motor package.
Give me a call if you are interested in more details about these karts or just to ask general karting questions, etc.

Thanx for the reply Jeff. As farthest i know the guy said it's a parilla 100cc motor. He mentioned that the kart is in excellent condition and been in storage for 2 years and raced only 2 times? The karts that you mentioned that are for sale what kind are they and how much money? Thanx for everything. I am planning to come out on the 26th to talk to you guys and ask lot's of questions.

If the motor is a Parilla 100cc then you don't want it if you plan on racing with SDKA or any other clubs in Southern CA. There are zero classes available for this motor. I'd be skeptical about the chassis. Even if its been sitting for two years that leaves four years unaccounted for. Is he the original owner? If not, how many times was it raced prior to him buying it. Even if the kart was used for practice/fun days only ... it's still a six year old chassis. I'm not saying that it can't be in good condition but I'd be sure to have it checked out.
Give me a call or leave me your phone number to discuss the other chassis and motor options. There's really too much detail to go over on a forum.
