David, I'm curious if any of you have tried the dry clutch yet and if you have a preference so far? I ran with it in the April 25th race on the West course, and I liked it a lot. It grabs a little sharper than the wet clutches seemed to... with the L&T and Nytro, it seemed to me that the engagement was softer - more of a transition between off and on. The dry really seems either locked or free, not much transition. It definitely spins up faster. It's a much smaller assembly with lower rotating mass, so that probably has something to do with it. Even with the can on instead of the pipe, the motor rev'd up quicker when the clutch was free. I am wondering about the durability. I won't know that until I see what my discs look like compared to the guys running wet clutches after a few races. Hope this helps, David

I was shown a possible discrepancy in the IKF rule book for the HDC-5B dry clutch. Is the HDC-5B legal for Formula YC? I would like to try it for myself, and plan to at some point, but I want to know if I need to plan on taking a drop when I try it.

My understanding of the Y/C class was that it was for wet clutches only, but that's just based on things you and other folks have told me; I haven't read the specs in the IKF rules for the Y/C class. I guess you could try practice on the HDC-5B and then run your Steel Nytro for the points heats if you wanted to do both. Or, if you found a loophole for the HDC, I'd say run it to at least see what it feels like.

Thanks David, I'm not looking for loopholes or more speed. I obviously don't know the rule for sure, that's why I asked. What I am looking for is a possible option to what we have now. It is hard to just propose something without knowing if it is going to work first. I do plan on using the dry clutch later on to see for myself how it will last. I don't know yet, but I would guess they are cheaper too.
