Ive been thinking of getting into Kart Racing and want to check things out. I have a guy wanting to sell me a PTK chassis with a 125 Rotax with a power valve. This kart has never been raced, so Im pretty sure the motor is not sealed. And what is a power valve? Ill be out at the track on Sunday to take a look around and ask a bunch of questions. I come from a variaty of other types of racing ( downhill mountain bike, offroad cars, trucks, and quads in the SCORE Baja series.) Is the Rotax class a good class to start in or what about a 125cc shifter. I kinda want to start in a faster class mainly because my sick addiction to speed, but I thought Id better ask before I go buy somthing I cant handle. Thanks in advance! Dave.

Dave, Welcome to SDKA and karting. I've raced Rotax, TaG and currently 125 Stock Shifter (also downhill mountain bikes). You definitely shouldn't start out in a shifter. A Rotax should be plenty fast and more importantly it is a better class to learn to drive/race a kart. Even though you have a background racing other types of vehicles, karts are quite different.
Stop by my pit tomorrow and we can chat. I can also point to some other Rotax and shifter drivers to talk to. I should be pit up front near the gate on one of the corners. #66 Arrow shifter kart.
