So I bought a racing kart today and I was wondering where I could test it out and drive it around since the streets are obviously not the best place. Does anyone know of any empty parking lots around San Diego? Or do I have to wait for the races and just learn as I race?
Thanks,

Unfortunately there are no tracks in the local San Diego area. I personally do not know of any open parking lots in San Diego that are not being used. Depending on where you are, open parking lots are usually an issue because of noise complaints and availability. Perris Apex is far but definitely worth the trek up there. You'll get a ton of seat time and a good feel for you kart before you start racing. The track is usually not very crowded during the week. If you are not able to make it up to this track, there are most likely available open parking lots out there, but might be hard to find. If you do decide to enter a race first with SDKA, you will get 2 practice sessions and qualifying before the first race where you can get accustomed to your kart. Hope this helps a little.

Do yourself a big favor, don't go to a parking lot. You have already commited to racing and spending some time at the track before your first race is very important. Besides there is always someone to talk to and help at the track. Make a day of it, get used to it, it's a blast, but unless your around other drivers you won't get what it's all about, and I don't think I would want to go 60 plus in just any parking lot. Just put an X on your number plate with electrical tape so everyone will know your a new driver, ( we all had to do that at one point ), go to Perris and have a great time. Look forward to seeing you at the track. What class will you be racing in?
