I am building a kart and am having an interesting time seating a couple of my tires. I have slicks:
rear: Dunlop 11.5 x 8.00-6 with Douglas 6x10 wheel front: Dunlop 11.5 x 6.00-6 with Douglas 6x7.25
and it is a real bear to seat the beads on these things. I have the fronts seated finally and have tried every trick in the book that i can think of. Is there any place in SanDiego (Lakeside) that knows kart tire mounting ??

Work from the back side of the rims; smaller diameter. Use something that will make the rubber surface "slippery"; like Simple Green. The best is "Tire Snot" from the Tire Whiz maker...yes, that's it's name and it work great. Remove the valve cores. Use a compressor that will deliver 120psi. Your tires should mount with loud pops. Once the beads are seated and the air used for mounting rushes out, install the valve cores and inflate to the desired pressure.

Bill's advice is perfect. If you still can't seem to get it done, you can bring your rims and tires by our shop in Santee, and I can mount or dismount karting tires for 5 bucks a tire. We have an electric tire mounter specifically for karting wheels that are 5" or 6". Just call Electra Motorsports at 619-448-0886 and ask for Jeff.
