I was looking through some of the past race data on mylaps.com, and noticed that the "best speed" value appears to be the average speed for the best lap time. Is that correct?
I had previoulsy thought that it was kart speed when crossing the sensor wire at the finish line.

How the best lap time is derived is from the average speed for a lap from the time your transponder enters the pick-up zone to the time it enters it again. What the system does is to take that time and divide it by the distance (provided by whoever set the distance parameters in the computer) and convert it out into either MPH or KPH. This time is only as accurate as to how accurate the actual distance is vs. the distance set up in the system. I have been using my MyChron to determine the lap distance for each course that we run. When we make adjustments, like we did last race to avoid trouble spots in the course, that distance will change but it won't be adjusted in the timing system, thus the actual speeds will not be entirely accurate.
