I am 17 years old and am very interested in karting. I have been looking up used karts and all the possibilities are just mind wrenching, probably more difficult than buying a 911. Anyways Ive been looking at used Birel chassis at here, www.mrpmotorsport.com/mrp-usedkarts.htm, now has anyone had any experience with these people if so was it good or bad? But most importantly where should I start, I have no experience in racing really, just a love of it. I supposed that an 80cc shifter was best but then read that shifters are generally not where to start. Then I guessed the Formula Y/C Heavy class was the only other choice but I now from my understanding presume rotax is where to start? I am liking hpv alot. It now seems that hpv3 would be a good place to start? Please help, I am incredibly confused. Thank you, JulioA

Julio, My son and I have been racing with SDKA for 5 seasons all in the Formula Y/C class. I have decided to step up to the 125 Open shifter class this year. If you are looking to race in Formula Y, I have my championship kart from last year for sale. It is a 2005 Margay Brava 1.6 Limo. If you are interested, email me at gearoyal@cox.net and I'll send you the details. You can check out the Margay chassis at www.margay.comGeary

Julio, I believe we talked last week. Looks like the rain kept us from meeting up yesterday. Anyway, give me a call again and we can go over the different options for you. Or shoot me an email. Regardless of class or chassis brand there are things you will want to look out for when shopping for karts. You really should not buy a chassis without being able to see and inspect it first (even from a kart shop).
