OK, we went to Adams today for some seat time for Otto. Lap two and he loses a motor mount, which chucks his chain and chews up his sprocket.
It's clearly my fault as I must not have tightened the mounts enough after replacing his chain from the off at Moran on 10/23.
I've gotten Gidley's book, and read through it pretty closely, but is there anything else I can do to become a better wrench for him?
I don't ever want to see that face again.

We used this pre-race checklist this year and had NO DNF's!
Before and between races:
Check Tire pressures Check wheel settings Check hubs are tight Check for sparking plug Check ignition unit is tight Oil chain Check fuel level Check for full throttle Check jet settings Check exhaust nuts, clamps and springs Check chain tension, sprocket bolts are tight and chain is still in line with sprockets Check cables and brakes Check your grid position for next race!
Between Meetings:
ALL of the above plus:
CLEAN your Kart! (You’ll be amazed what you find when you do it!) Complete nut and bolt check. (All of them) Check fuel filter & replace if necessary Check fuel line and replace if necessary Clean carb. Check number of hours on the engine and get serviced if necessary Check tires and replace if necessary Clean combustion chamber (wipe out carbon build-up) Drain your gas tank Check brake pads for wear and remove (or add) shims or replace pads Check toe and camber

Larry,
Keep a stock of spare parts of things that wear or commonly break such as:
chains gears (you'll need a selection anyways) Tie-rods Rear Axle Spark Plugs Nuts, bolts, clips and springs. Brake Pads
I strongly agree with cleaning your kart after every day of driving. It is amazing what you will find.

Don't be overwhelmed by everything, it's really a learning process and common sense. If you keep at it and ask questions all the time you will learn. What you will learn is that you never learn enough! But this is a very special part of karting, I kinda miss the early years. Mike Campbell
