Just finished a "K-1" class at Adams Kart Track and my son can't wait to get back.
Looking for first time Kart-er advice. Where Can He Race? What Sanctioning Body? What Safety Equipment?
And probably a few thousand other questions, but lets start there... We're in San Clemente, so we're 1/2 way between Riverside & San Diego and Probably just as far to Perris, but this seems to be the closest 'Club' to us....

He can race with SDKA in the kid kart class. Most of the races are held in the parking lot of Qualcomm stadium with cones set up which is good because there's a lot of runoff. There are also normally joint races with PAK where we race at Apex (perris). For safety equipment: - snell '05 or '10 rated helmet - karting neck brace - driving suit - karting gloves - rib protector (optional) - driving shoes (optional) There's a lot of different brands of equipment but you can find everything at the k1 website: www.k1racegear.com/

I've been racing with the San Diego club since 1995. My son started racing at age 9 and races shifters now. I'm in San Clemente also. Feel free to give me a call at 949-292-6744. Bob Legate

Thanks for the responses. And what about the sanctioning body(s)? Was hoping to read over a rule book of sorts. Was hoping to start researching equipment for him but don't want to waste time/money on stuff he can't use or may not be ready for.
Background: I never raced karts but have been rally racing for the last 8 years. We have 3 "sanctioning" bodies and finding common ground in the rules is sometimes tricky.
