Hey everyone ive got a few questions that id love to get some answers on if anyone could help.
Can you design your own kart and be able to race it instead of purchasing from a manufacturer?
If so what is the tubing diameter and thickness required if any?
if there are any other certain things also NEEDED to run a kart i would love to be informed. I used to race an 80cc over 6 years ago and would love to get back into it but in a larger kart.
I run a machine shop and weld shop in East County San Diego and would love to design and produce something my self as a sense of pride and enjoyment. Any help would be greatley appreciated!

Simple answer is no. You can't build your own kart and race it in any sanctioned event (IKF, SKUSA, Gatorz, WKA, etc.). The frame, bodywork, etc. must all bear the CIK homologation stickers/stamps/labels. There is too big a liability for the insurance underwriters, race producers, and track owners/operatos to permit homemade stuff in a race situation. The homologation intent is to define a level of safety that is built into the materials, engineering, and manufacturing. Like it or not, it's what we have to work with in this hobby we love.

I agree with Bill. It is much bettet not to worry about saftey issues. I know the start up cost to karting can be costly and I can see why you what to build your own. I have an 2005 Intrepid suzuka chassis for sale it,s in great shape and many upgrades, plus many extra parts. I am willing to let it go for $700. Even used chassis still sell for 1,000 to 2,000 dollars. Please see classifieds under 2005 Intrepid (suzuka). I hope you find what you are looking for and see you on the track. I also run an intrepid chassis # 17 tag class.......
