New rules for the 2010 season include a new bumper configuration:
201.6 Rear Bumper: “Beginning 2010”, Full width plastic (CIK) or steel bumpers will be required. Minimum width will require the bumper to extend to the center line of each rear tire. Maximum width will be the outside of the rear tires. Rain tires will be the only allowable exception.
If you don't have one that complies with the width requirement, it seems that you should get busy. I have it from the tech authority that this will be enforced at the APEX/Jan 31 race.

I'm a little confused.
In my IKF rulebook for 2010 (dated Dec 2009) section 201.6 says that the rear bumper rule for full width starts January 1, 2011. Is there something else that changes that rule?
If so, thanks for getting the word out.............

Don is correct. The 2010 IKF Competition Regulations & Technical Manual, Section 201.6 Reads in part: "Starting January 1, 2011 all karts must be equipped with a rear bumper...to keep a following kart from reaching the rear tires..." There was discussion by the IKF BOD to make this rule change beginning in 2010; but they chose to give everyone a break so the manufacturers of the $200+ bumpers could work on availability and attachment hardware. The SDKA BOD will evaluate the necessity for full width rear bumper thru the year. If our insurance underwriter requires we make this change, we won't have much choice. We will give the membership plenty of warning before making change.

I found that info on the PAK website and e-mailed them asking about it. Gene S. responded that the bumper rule would be in place for this race.
I replied to Gene and forwared this forum string link, but have not heard back.
I hope you guys are correct, I can't use the $250 CIK plastic version, and I don't think I have time to fabricate a metal one before next Sunday.

There will be two tech lines ... PAK will have their own tech and we'll have the SDKA tech. Each club is following their own tech rules.
